Across the Table

The story in three lines. This time Tí hides the Moonstone and Flitter seeks it. Tí is bursting to tell, but keeps the secret. Flitter finds Ursa and then Puck, who tickles Ursa home, and Tí lifts the middle leaf himself to show where it was.

The five nights. Night one, listen. Night two, let your child say the bold last words. Night three, join in the refrains. Night four, stop and ask the question in the story. Night five, let your child hide the button and keep the secret while you seek.

The question on night four: Where did Tí hide it?

The answer. Under the middle leaf. Your child knows, because they were told, and Flitter does not. Knowing something that someone else does not know is an important idea for a four-year-old.

One thing to do at the table. Three cups and a button. Let your child hide it. You seek, slowly, and wonder out loud.

The grown-up layer. Keeping a secret for a short game builds patience and turn-taking. HollowTots lets children hide as well as seek.
