The Honest Page
Which parts of this story are true, stretched or made up?
True
- Five years is 1,825 days, not counting leap days. A quarter of 4,000 is 1,000.
- A reverse image search lets you give a search engine a picture, and it looks for pages where that picture appears, which can help you find where it came from. Source
- A newspaper correction is a public notice about a factual mistake in an earlier article. Source
Stretched
- In the case, a search finds the photo's first appearance in a few minutes. What we simplified: Sometimes it does. Often the oldest copy is hard or impossible to find, and you have to say honestly that you could not confirm where a picture came from.
Made up
- The Green Gazette, Mill Lane, Mrs Hallam, Mr Pettit, Mrs Okafor, Councillor Brand, the photo and the other town are made up.
