Distances are rounded and always say “about”. Home is chosen from a list, never from the device’s location. The land outlines are Natural Earth (public domain). Questions whose two distances are too close to call honestly are never asked.

The oldest globe

The oldest globe that still exists, Martin Behaim’s Erdapfel (“earth apple”), was made in Nuremberg around 1492. It has no Americas on it: there is open sea where they are. Every globe is somebody’s best map of its time.

Source: Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nuremberg (the Behaim globe, dated 1490–1494 in different catalogues); Wikipedia, “Erdapfel”.

What it never does

  • No accounts, no ads, no tracking — progress stays on this device.
  • No streaks, timers-to-beat, points to chase or leaderboards.
  • No chat, and nothing your child makes is sent anywhere unless you choose to.

We describe what GlobePals is designed to practise. We do not claim it raises test scores.
