Almost nobody reads the terms. A contract is just a list of clauses — and reading one is a skill you can learn.

Read every clause with two questions

You don’t have to be a lawyer. For each clause, ask who does this favour? and what does it let the other party do? The clauses that quietly favour the company are the ones worth flagging before you sign.

🔁 Auto-renewal. Keeps charging you unless you cancel by a deadline — usually earlier than you’d expect. You have to act to STOP paying.
⚖️ Arbitration / class-action waiver. You give up suing in court or joining everyone else the company treated the same way.
💸 Fees, data & liability. An early-termination fee locks you in; a data clause shares your information; a liability waiver pushes the risk onto you.
✓ …and the fair ones. A symmetric “either side may cancel with notice, no charge” clause is fine — knowing which clauses NOT to flag is half the skill.

The clauses to know by name

Renewal. The clause that renews itself and keeps charging you unless you cancel in time.
Arbitration. The line that quietly takes away your day in court and your class action.
Fee. The lock-in — priced so that leaving early feels too expensive to do.
Cancel. How you actually get out: the notice, the deadline, and whether it costs you anything.
