One real change Bali, Indonesia · 2013–2018 · Melati and Isabel Wijsen, aged 12 and 10 when they began
They learned that fewer than 5 in 100 plastic bags on their island were recycled. With other children they started Bye Bye Plastic Bags: beach clean-ups, talks, and other bags to use instead. In 2015 they started a petition, and it gathered about 100,000 signatures. A ban on single-use plastic bags came into effect in 2018.
They did not do it alone: the ban came from the work of many groups and people. Their part was to start, and to help build the push for it.
Petition : A written request to someone in charge, often signed by many people. From the Latin petitio, "a request".
Who would your petition go to, and what one thing would it ask for?
