AgoPals
Long ago, people wrote on clay tablets and rode horses. A while ago, your grandparents wrote letters. Now, you video-call a cousin. AgoPals is a first, gentle idea of history: everyday things change over time, and events have an order. Sort them long ago / a while ago / now - then build the timeline. A tiny, deterministic history game, no internet. Ages 6-8.
#b5722e Distributed-narrative cast
Meet the cast
AgoPals's crew ARE the eras and the ordering that make up history - the cast IS the curriculum: change over time, put in order. Longo lives in the far past - clay tablets, candles, horses to travel. Whileen remembers a while ago, when grandparents were kids: letters in the post, one TV shared by a whole street. Nowette lives in today - video calls, a show on a tablet in your hand. Orderly lines everything up: what came first, what came next, what came last. Chrona, the mentor, helps the class see the one big idea - history is CHANGE OVER TIME, and comparing 'then' with 'now' shows you exactly what changed. A first, gentle feel for chronology (6-8): short words, big buttons, tap-only sorting, no score. The concept's grown-up-adds-photos idea is a device feature skipped on the web (R-WEB-CLONE-DEVICE-FEATURE-SKIP); the web uses synthetic event cards plus an 'ask a grown-up what THEY did as a kid' prompt. Painted portraits are a tracked follow-on (R-WEB-CLONE-SPAWN-TRACKED); a text-only crew + a flat, deterministic on-device change-over-time engine ship now - nothing leaves the device.
Longo
The far-past friend - clay tablets, candles, horses; the events at the very start of the timeline
Whileen
The near-past friend - grandparents' childhood: letters, one shared TV; the 'a while ago' in between long ago and now
Nowette
The now friend - video calls and tablets; today's way of doing everyday things
Orderly
The one who puts events in order - first, next, last - so history is a sequence, not a jumble
Chrona
(Mentor) The guide who helps the class see how everyday things CHANGE from long ago to now
